The Paneled Sunsuit - Not Just a Sunsuit Tour

Hi! First of all, please excuse all the pink overload on this post. I really hope you don't get... hummm... nauseous... and that you can make it to the end. :)

This has been a super busy week. Last week we were away on vacation and this week started with the 4th birthday of this little (not-so-little) girl and then lots of sewing and blogging. I guess September really is the month of new beginnings and going back on track, after a long unscheduled Summer. :) (Actually it is still Summer around here, and my kids are still on vacation, at home. Yes, really. Two more weeks to go.)

I finally posted about this great toy I made last December (!) which helps toddlers learning the different colors. Then I guest blogged over Patchwork Posse with a tutorial on how to make the most quick & easy girls skirt and another tutorial on how to sew French seams

Today, I am sharing with you my last making - this cute Summer PJ's - for the "Not Just a Sunsuit tour". When Ajaire (Call Ajaire) invited me to sew her very first pattern I couldn't say no!

Props: Quilt and pillow cover from Zara Home, kids section.

Pattern:
Paneled suit by Designs by Call Ajaire

Fabric & Notions:

  • Voile with peach skin flowers. This fabric was offered to me by my lovely aunt who lives in Canada. Now that I think about it, Ajaire is also from Canada! How fun is that? It was completely unintentional!
  • Vintage lace and embroidery anglaise. This embroidery cotton was given to me by my mom a couple of weeks of ago, along with some gorgeous vintage embroidered and lace collars (you can see them here, on my Instagram feed).

The recommended fabrics are light-to-medium wovens, such has cotton, cotton lawn, double gauze, denim, chambray, linen, voile, poplin, sateen.

Details:
This pattern is probably the most versatile pattern I have ever seen. It offers TEN different views, with a few options. You will find a sunsuit, a jumpsuit, a maxi dress, a jumper, two tanks, shorts, trousers, maxi skirt and above the knee skirt. There are options for adding a pocket (with or without faux piping) and now Ajaire even added an option for long sleeves! How amazing is that?

The title of this tour is "Not Just a Sunsuit". Well, I really took it as a challenge and came up with these Summer Nighties
I made view F - a tank with hemmed waist - to which I actually added embroidered cotton trim, and view I - shorts - and omitted the pockets. (I guess pockets are not a necessity when this girl is, well, sleeping. That or I was just, you know, lazy.)

This pattern is available in sizes newborn up to 12! I have made the tank on a size 4 and the shorts on a size 5. I probably should have made the tank also on size 5 because it looks a little snug and I think she won't be able to wear it next year. Also, I think it was a bit short on her toddler belly ( I think it was designed to be a crop top) so I'm glad I added the trim.

There are no closures - the elastic on the straps and back bodice makes it an easy on-off for little girls. The shorts, trousers and skirts also have an elasticized waistband instead of a closure, so again it makes it super easy for little girls to dress themselves.

Another great thing about this pattern is that there is an option for a snap strip at the crotch which is perfect for the smaller sizes, regarding diaper changes. Ajaire has thought of everything!

The instructions are really thorough and clear. I can't imagine how many hours (months!) of work Ajaire has put into this. I am seriously in awe. She could have made several different patterns, but instead you get several patterns for the price of one pattern. (Don't you love her already?)

There is a giveaway of 4 copies of the Paneled Sunsuit pattern! All you need to do is entry the Rafflecopter below.

I can't believe this little lady just turned 4 last Monday. I'm happy she is still a baby: she talks with a toddler sweet voice tone, can't say her "r"s, and let's not talk about all the adorable baby chubbiness and (still) small hands. :)

She is the most lovely, super sweet, adorable human being I know. :) I love her more than I can express by words. <3

Happy sewing!
